Pinnock, Trevor (1946– )

English harpsichordist and conductor. He founded the English Concert in 1973, giving performances of early music. In 1980 he began conducting. His recordings include Purcell's King Arthur and the complete Mozart symphonies.

He studied at the Royal College of Music, London, and made his solo debut in London in 1971. He played with the Galliard Harpsichord Trio 1966–72 and often appeared with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields.

He has conducted from 1980; performances include Handel's Solomon at the 1986 London Promenade Concerts. He made his New York Metropolitan debut in 1988, with Handel's Giulio Cesare; for his Salzburg debut in 1988 he conducted Handel's Messiah. In 1991 he was appointed principal conductor of the Arts Centre Orchestra, Ottawa, Canada.
