Pines - the two pine trees grown commercially for the Christmas tree market are the Scots Pine, Pinus sylvestris that is native to Scotland, and the Lodgepole Pine, Pinus contorta from Alaska.
This essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the needles, twigs and buds of Pinus sylvestris.
Thus, it is most natural to suppose that the main factor affecting the growth of Pinus sylvestris at bog (in time scale of decades) is the availability of nutrients from the air, although additional climatic effects are not excluded.
