Piscator, Erwin

Piscator, Erwin (1893–1966)

German theatre director. He introduced the idea of epic theatre, using slide-projection, music, dance, and film to create a revolutionary social drama in the Red Revue 1921 and in Hoppla, That's Life! 1927.

While in the USA 1939–51 he produced an adaptation of Tolstoy's War and Peace 1942, but returned to directing in Germany 1951, where he produced plays by Rolf Hochhuth.
