Pisendel, Johann Georg (1687–1755)

German violinist and composer. He studied with Vivaldi in Venice, and wrote concertos and pieces for the violin.

He was a choirboy at the chapel of the Margrave of Ansbach, and while there studied the violin under Giuseppe Torelli and theory under Francesco Pistocchi. After studying at Leipzig University he went to Dresden to enter the service of the king of Poland there in 1712, travelled widely with the king, became concert master in 1728 on the death of Jean Baptiste Volumier, and led the opera orchestra under Johann Hasse.
