Piteşti

Capital of Argeş county, Romania, 120 km/75 mi northwest of Bucharest; population (2002) 168,500. It is situated on an oil- and gasfield and has developed associated industries; it also produces wine, textiles, machinery, motor vehicles, leather, shoes, chemicals, and has food processing.
