Pitman, Isaac (1813–1897)

English teacher and inventor of Pitman's shorthand. He studied Samuel Taylor's scheme for shorthand writing, and in 1837 published his own system, Stenographic Soundhand, fast, accurate, and adapted for use in many languages. He was knighted in 1894.
