Fort Duquesne

Former French fort and trading post established in 1754 on the site where Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, now stands. In 1758 British forces under Gen Forbes destroyed the French fort, replaced it with Fort Pitt (named after William Pitt, prime minister of Britain at the time), and established the town of Pittsburgh.
