Pittston

Town in Luzerne County, northeastern Pennsylvania, USA, on the Susquehanna River, south of the mouth of the Lackawanna River, 13 km/8 mi of Wilkes-Barre; population (1990) 9,400. Industries include coal mining, and the manufacture of textiles, cooking appliances, paper, textiles, stoves, paper, and cigars; other facilities include railway workshops. Pittston was settled in 1770 by the Susquehanna Company of Connecticut.
