Plainview

Village in Oyster Bay town, Nassau County, southeastern New York State, USA, in western-central Long Island, 5 km/3 mi east of Hicksville; population (1990 est) 26,200. It is primarily a residential community.

Plainview

Seat of Hale County, northern Texas, USA, in the South Plains, 64 km/40 mi northeast of Lubbock; population (1990) 21,700. Its many wells provide irrigation for castor beans, vegetables, cotton, wheat, and sorghum. Industries include meat-packing and the manufacture of irrigation equipment. Other facilities include Wayland Baptist University (1908), a number of medical institutions, and the Llano Estacado Museum, which contains artifacts of Plainview Man (8000 BC). The town was founded in 1887.
