Plano| Town in Kendall County, northeastern Illinois, USA, near the Fox River, 29 km/18 mi southwest of Aurora; population (1990) 5,100. An agricultural market centre, it also manufactures hardware and plastic goods. Plano was settled by Norwegian colonists. It lies 2 km/1 mi northeast of Maramech Hill, the site of a 1730 skirmish between American Indian Fox peoples and the French. Silver Springs State Park is situated just south of the town. |
Plano| City in Collin and Denton counties, northeastern Texas, USA, 27 km/17 mi northeast of downtown Dallas; population (1990) 128,700. It manufactures communications equipment, snack foods, metals, printed materials, and brass products, and has growing medical and financial sectors. Settled in 1845, Plano remained agricultural for a century, growing cotton and raising cattle. After 1960, when its population was just under 4,000, it boomed with the suburbanization of Dallas. |
