Plantade, Charles Henri (1764–1839)

French pianist, harpist, cellist, and composer. He learnt singing and cello as one of the royal pages, and later studied composition with Langlé, piano with Hüllmandel, and harp with Petrini. Having set himself up as a teacher of singing and harp, he began to write duets, which gained him access to the stage. He taught singing to Queen Hortense and became maître de chapelle at the court. He was a professor at the Paris Conservatory, and held other posts and distinctions.

operas Palma, ou Le Voyage en Grèce (1797), Zoé, ou La Pauvre petite (1800), Le Mari de circonstance (1813) and many others; masses, Requiem, Te Deum, motets; romances and nocturnes for two voices.
