Plasson, Michel (1933– )

French conductor. He studied at the Paris Conservatory, and in the USA with Stokowski and Leinsdorf. He was music director at Metz (1966–68), and of the Orchestre and Théâtre du Capitole at Toulouse (1968–83), where he led performances of Aïda, Parsifal, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, and the premiere of Montsegur by Landowski (1985). He made his London debut in 1979 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, with Werther; he returned for Guillaume Tell and Tosca (1990–92). At the Palais Omnisport in Paris he has conducted the Verdi Requiem, Aïda, and Nabucco (1984–87). He was principal guest with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra from 1987. His recordings include Roussel's Padmâvatî and Magnard's Guercoeur.
