Platt, Norman (1920- )

English opera director and baritone. He studied singing with Elena Gerhardt, and appeared with the Sadler's Wells company and the English Opera Group (1945-48). He was a member of the Deller Consort (1948-64) and founded Kent Opera in 1969; he was its artistic director and principal producer until it was disbanded by the Arts Council, in 1989. His productions included Le nozze di Figaro, The Return of Ulysses, Agrippina, and Peter Grimes. He refounded Kent Opera in 1994.
