Plug & Display

Computing standard intended to allow digital computers to control digital flat panel displays. Almost all personal computers have an analogue output port to connect to a CRT or monitor. Almost all flat panel (LCD) display screens are therefore provided with the corresponding analogue input port, plus circuitry to convert the analogue signal back to digital. The double-conversion is pointless and degrades quality. However, there are several options for making digital-to-digital connections and, in the short term, Plug & Display looks unlikely to succeed.
