Plymouth Rock

Exposed rock at Plymouth, Massachusetts, on which, according to tradition, the Pilgrims first stepped ashore in New England in 1620. However, this attribution was not made until 1741, and there is a more likely harbour just along the coast.

The actual rock is now only about one third of the size of the original, as pieces have been taken for souvenirs, but it is now well protected. ‘1620’ is engraved upon it.
