Pogorelich, Ivo

    0.02 sec.

Pogorelich, Ivo (1958– )

Serbian pianist. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Aliza Kezeradze (b c. 1935); they were married in 1980. He won first prize in the Montreal International Competition 1980, but when in the same year he was eliminated before the final rounds of the Chopin International competition, one of the jury members, Martha Argerich, resigned. His success thereafter was assured. He was noted for his technical brilliance and control, rather than the profundity of his interpretations. He made his New York and London debuts in 1981, and settled in England in 1982.
