Poher, Alain (1909-1996)

French politician. President of the Senate from October 1968. By the terms of the constitution of the Fifth Republic he became interim president on the resignation of Charles de Gaulle in 1969. He was an unsuccessful candidate in presidential elections, but became interim president again on the death of Georges Pompidou in April 1974.
