Poisoned Kiss, The

Opera by Vaughan Williams (libretto by Evelyn Sharp), produced at the Cambridge Arts Theatre, on 12 May 1936. Much of the score is a satire on various musical styles. The story concerns the magician Dipsacus, who long ago was abandoned by one-time love Persicaria. He plans revenge: to kill her son Amaryllus with a poisoned kiss from his daughter Tormentilla. But Amaryllus has the antidote and they all live happily ever after.
