Poissl, Johann Nepomuk von (1783–1865)

German composer. He studied with Danzi at Munich, where he became Intendant of the royal orchestra and director of the royal opera.

Works

operas Athalia (after Racine, 1814), Der Wettkampf zu Olympia, and Nittetis (translations of Metastasio's Olimpiade and Nitteti, 1815 and 1817), Zayde (1843), and about ten others; mass, Stabat Mater, Psalm xcv; oratorio Der Erntetag (1835).
