Polesden Lacey

Villa near Dorking, Surrey, England. Originally an elegant 1820s villa, the house was extensively remodelled after 1906, and bequeathed to the National Trust in 1942, with 365 ha/902 acres, by the Hon Mrs Ronald Greville (a well-known Edwardian hostess). The house contains her collection of paintings, furniture, porcelain, and silver. The gardens include a walled rose garden and tree-lined walks.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (now the Queen Mother) spent part of their honeymoon here in 1923.

Richard Brinsley Sheridan bought the original Caroline house in 1797, and his son sold the property in 1818 to Joseph Bonsor, who built the present house.
