Police, the

British rock band 1977-83. One of the most influential and popular bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s, the band blended reggae, jazz, punk, and world music on albums such as Outlandos D'Amour (1978), Regatta De Blanc (1979), Ghost in the Machine (1980), and Zenyatta Mondatta (1981). Their final album Synchronicity (1983) topped the charts in the USA and the UK, as did the hugely popular single ‘Every Breath You Take’.

The trio featured Sting (born Gordon Sumner, 1951- ), Stewart Copeland (1952- ), and Andy Summers (1942- ). Their many hit singles include ‘Roxanne’, ‘Message in a Bottle’, ‘Walking on the Moon’, ‘Don't Stand So Close to Me’, and ‘Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic’.
