Pollack, Sydney (1934–2008)
US director, actor, and producer. His work covered a variety of genres, including period pieces, action films, and comedies. He directed Out of Africa (1985), which won Academy Awards for best picture and best director.
He also directed The Way We Were (1973), The Electric Horseman (1979), Absence of Malice (1981), Tootsie (1982), The Firm (1993), Sabrina (1995), and Random Hearts (1999). He appeared in such films as Husbands and Wives (1992), The Player (1992), and Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
