Pollarolo, Carlo Francesco

Pollarolo, Carlo Francesco (1653–1723)

Italian organist and composer. He was a popular composer of operas in his day, writing over 80 in all, though only about 20 have survived. He was the father of Antonio Pollarolo.

He was taught by Giovanni Legrenzi at Venice, becoming a singer at St Mark's there in 1665, second organist in 1690, and assistant maestro di cappella in 1692. He was director of music at the Conservatorio degli Incurabili from 1696.

Roderico (1686), La forza dela virtù (1693), Ottone (1694), Faramondo, Semiramide (1713), Marsia deluso, Ariodante (1716), Le pazzie degli amanti, Gl'inganni felici, Santa Genuinda (with Violone and A Scarlatti, 1694), and many others, though most are lost.
