Pollini, Maurizio

Pollini, Maurizio (1942– )

Italian pianist and conductor. He studied at the Milan Conservatory and in 1960 won the Chopin International Competition, in Warsaw. He made many recital appearances was a soloist in Europe and the USA (where he made his debut at the Carnegie Hall, New York, in 1968). In addition to performing the standard repertory, he played works by Boulez, Nono, and Schoenberg, and has conducted from the keyboard. In 1981 he conducted Rossini's La donna del lago, at Pesaro.
