Polycarp, St (c. 69-c. 155)

Christian martyr allegedly converted by St John the Evangelist. As bishop of Smyrna (modern Izmir, Turkey), he carried on a vigorous struggle against various heresies for over 40 years. He was burned alive at a public festival. Feast day 23 February.
