Pompey's Pillar

Monolith of red granite in Alexandria, Egypt. It was erected in the Serapeum (the temple of the god Serapis) to commemorate the Roman emperor Diocletian's remission of part of the corn tribute after his overthrow of the emperor Domitian AD 296. It has the name Pompey's Pillar because its site was confused with that of Pompey's tomb.
