Pompton Lakes

Borough of Passaic County, northeastern New Jersey, USA, bounded by the Pompton, Ramapo, and Pequannock rivers,14 km/9 mi northwest of Paterson; population (1990) 10,500. Situated in a region dotted with lakes, just north of the New York City-northern New Jersey metropolis, it was formerly a summer resort and is now a commuter suburb with interstate highway connections. Industries include the manufacture of textiles and explosives. The borough was settled by the Dutch in 1682.
