Ponca City

Town in Kay County, northern-central Oklahoma, USA, near the Arkansas River, 80 km/50 mi northeast of Enid; population (1990) 26,400. Situated in an oilfield area, its economy is centred around petroleum research and products. Ceramics and clothing are manufactured, and the town is also a processing and distribution hub for flour, animal feed, meat, and other goods.

Ponca City was settled in 1893 as part of the Cherokee Strip land rush, when the strip of land, purchased in 1891 from the Cherokee, was taken over by white settlers.
