Pons, Juan (1946- )

Spanish baritone. He studied in Barcelona, and in 1979 he sang Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. In 1983 he appeared at the Paris Opéra, as Tonio in Pagliacci. His Verdi roles included Falstaff (Munich, San Francisco, and Rome), Amonasro (Verona Arena, 1984), Germont (Chicago, 1988), and Renato. He made his New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1986, as Scarpia; he returned in 1993, as Rigoletto.
