Pony Express

In the USA, a system of mail-carrying by relays of horse riders that operated in the years 1860-61 between St Joseph, Missouri, and Sacramento, California, a distance of about 2,900 km/1,800 mi.

The Pony Express was a private venture by a company called Russell, Majors, and Waddell. 157 stations were set up along the route and the riders, who included William Cody, (Buffalo Bill), needed several changes of horses between each station.
