Poole, Geoffrey (1949- )

English composer. He studied at Southampton University with Jonathan Harvey and with Goehr at Leeds, and he was senior lecturer at Manchester University from 1989. He received commissions from the Hallé Orchestra and London Sinfonietta.

Fragments for strings (1974); Crow Tyrannosaurus for soprano and ensemble (1975); Chamber Concerto (1979); Machaut-Layers for voice and ensemble (1980); Sailing with Archangels for wind band (1990); two string quartets (1983, 1990); In Beauty May I Walk vocal duo with strings (1990); The Magnification of the Virgin for female consort and 12 instruments (1992).

Orchestral and choral

Visions for orchestra (1975); music theatre Biggs v Stomp does it again and again.. (1981); symphonic poem The Net and Aphrodite (1982); Cummings Choruses (1985); oratorio Blackbird (1993).
