POP3

On the Internet, one of the two most common mail protocols.

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer SMTP, POP3, or both. The primary difference to most users is the choice of software available. SMTP is older and more flexible, but POP3 is generally simpler for those accessing the Internet via a dial-up account.
