Popov, Gavryil Nikolaievich (1904–1972)

Russian composer. He studied at the School of Music at Rostov-on-Don, and from 1922 attended the St Petersburg Conservatory, where Steinberg and Shtcherbatchev were his composition masters.

Works

operas The Slow Horseman (after Pushkin) and Alexander Nevsky; film music; Heroic Intermezzo for solo voice, chorus and orchestra, based on the second opera; six symphonies, two suites for orchestra; violin concerto; septet for flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, violin, viola and double bass (1927); suite and pieces for piano.
