Poppaea, Sabina

    0.03 sec.

Poppaea, Sabina (died AD 65)

Roman noble, mistress of the emperor Nero. She was married first to Rufus Crispinus and then to Marcus Salvius Otho. Nero fell in love with her, and sent Otho to govern Lusitania AD 58. Poppaea, anxious to marry Nero, allegedly persuaded him in AD 59 to murder his mother, Agrippina the Younger, who was opposed to the union, and then to divorce and in AD 62 murder his wife Octavia. Poppaea was killed, while pregnant, by a kick from Nero.
