Populism
In US history, a late 19th-century political movement that developed out of farmers' protests against economic hardship. The Populist (or People's) Party was founded in 1892 and ran several presidential candidates. It failed, however, to reverse increasing industrialization and the relative decline of agriculture in the USA.
