Alessandro nell'Indie

Opera by Johann Christian Bach (libretto by Pietro Metastasio), first produced at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Italy, on 20 January 1762. The plot tells how, defeated by Alexander the Great, the Indian king Porus resolves to rescue Queen Cleophis.

The first setting was by Leonardo Vinci (Rome, 1729); others were by Baldassare Galuppi (Mantua, 1738), David Perez (Genoa, 1745), Antonio Sacchini (Venice, 1763), and Niccolò Piccinni (Naples, 1774).
