Port Deposit

Town in Cecil County, northeastern Maryland, USA, on the Susquehanna River, 6 km/4 mi north of Havre de Grace; population (1990) 700. Formerly a busy 19th-century port, it shipped granite from quarries in local 60 m/200 ft-high cliffs, that have been worked since 1808. The US Navy maintained a training facility in the port at Bainbridge from 1942 to 1976.
