Port Shepstone

Town situated at the mouth of Umzimkulu River, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa; population (district, 1991) 67,200. The port is silted up, but the town is a popular resort. It is linked to Durban by rail. Its chief products are sugar and fruits. Near Port Shepstone are immense quantities of marble, varying from deep red to white, which started to be mined in the late 1990s.
