Port Saint Lucie

City in St Lucie County, eastern-central Florida, USA, on the North Fork tributary of the St Lucie River, 21 km/13 mi northwest of the St Lucie inlet on the Atlantic, and 16 km/10 mi south of Fort Pierce; population (1990) 55,900. Expanding from a population of just over 300 in 1970, Port St Lucie is now a booming retirement and resort community, with enormous stretches of artificial waterway. The spring training baseball complex of the New York Mets is located in the city.
