Porta, Costanzo

Porta, Costanzo (c. 1529–1601)

Italian monk and composer. He was a pupil of Adrian Willaert at Venice. He took holy orders and became choirmaster at Osimo near Ancona 1552–64, then went to Padua to take up a similar post at the Cappella Antoniana, the church of the Minorite order to which he belonged. He left for a time to work at Ravenna 1567–74, then at Loreto 1574–80. He returned to Ravenna and lived there 1580–89.
