Porta, Giovanni (c. 1690-1755)

Italian composer. He worked in Rome 1706-16 in the service of Cardinal Ottoboni, then at the Conservatorio della pietà in Venice. He also visited London, where his opera Numitore was produced in 1720. From 1736 to his death he was kapellmeister to the court in Munich.

over 30 operas, including Arianna (1723), Antigono (1724), Ulisse (1725), and Semiramide (1733);

Choral

oratorios, cantatas, 19 Masses and other church music.
