personal digital assistant

Handheld computer designed to store names, addresses, and diary information, and to send and receive faxes and e-mail.

The two main types of PDA are those based on the Palm operating system, and those using the Windows Pocket PC operating system. Competition for the PDA came from the smartphone and also from ultra-mobile PC's with their small screens and full versions of the Windows operating system.
