Portmarnock

Seaside resort in County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, 14 km/9 mi northeast of Dublin; population (2001) 8,400. Portmarnock has a beach and a championship golf course. The ruins of St Marnock's church and St Marnock's well can be seen here.

Another church and well, St Doulagh's, 3 km/2 mi west of Portmarnock, date from the 13th century and incorporate the remains of an earlier anchorite cell.

Nearby St Doulagh's Lodge was the home of the artist Nathaniel Hone (1831-1917), who specialized in landscape and seascape painting.
