| Silica-rich material, such as volcanic tuff or chert, which can be ground up and mixed to form a cement highly resistant to corrosion by salt water. Currently used in Portland cement, it was named after the town of Pozzuoli, Italy, where a nearby volcanic tuff was used as a basis for cement in Roman times. |
