Post, Emil Leon (1897-1954)

Polish-born mathematician and logician. He did pioneering work in proof theory and multivalued logics and was cofounder of the theory of recursive functions. He was a founding member of the Association for Symbolic Logic.

Post was born in Augustow, Poland. Emigrating to the USA as a child, he lost his left arm (age 12) and rejected a career in astronomy.
