Postlethwaite, Peter (1945- )

English stage and screen actor. He has enjoyed a successful career, beginning on stage and as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company before establishing himself in Hollywood blockbusters and British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) dramas alike. After appearing in the film Distant Voices/Still Lives (1988), his films have included In the Name of the Father (1994), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, The Usual Suspects (1995), Brassed Off (1996), Romeo and Juliet (1996), and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Notable television performances include an adaptation of Dickens's Martin Chuzzlewit (1994), and the screenplay of Deric Longden's book, Lost For Words (1998), with Dame Thora Hird playing his aged mother.
