potassium dichromate

Orange, crystalline solid, soluble in water, that is a strong oxidizing agent in the presence of dilute sulphuric acid. As it oxidizes other compounds it is itself reduced to potassium chromate (K2CrO4), which is green. Industrially it is used in the manufacture of dyes and glass and in tanning, photography, and ceramics.
