cinquefoil

Any of a group of plants that usually have five-lobed leaves and brightly coloured flowers. They are widespread in northern temperate regions. (Genus Potentilla, family Rosaceae.)

Field cinquefoil ( Potentilla canadensis) is a low-growing perennial with yellow flowers native to eastern North America in dry grasslands and barrens.
