Powell, Mike (1963– )

US long jumper who in 1991 broke US athlete Bob Beamon's world long-jump record of 8.90 m/29 ft 2 in (which had stood since 1968) with a leap of 8.95 m/29 ft 4 in. At the same time, he dealt Carl Lewis his first long-jump defeat since 1981.
