Prévost, Eugène (Prosper) (1809–1872)

French composer and singing-teacher. He studied at the Paris Conservatory with Lesueur and others, and gained the Prix de Rome in 1831. After producing works in Paris he became conductor at the theatre of Le Havre for a time. In 1938 he left for New Orleans, where he conducted at the French theatre and taught singing. In 1862 he returned to Paris, but went again to New Orleans in 1867.

Works Operas L'Hôtel de princes (1831), Le Grenadier de Wagram (1831), Cosimo (1835), Le Bon garçon, Esmeralda (after Hugo's Notre-Dame de Paris), L'Illustre Gaspard (1863).
